Ghosts, Pumpkins, and Royal Icing: My Halloween Cookie Class Recap

Last weekend I hosted my very first cookie decorating class, and I cannot thank my attendees enough for supporting me and letting me teach this class! I had so much fun, and I truly hope everyone did too. We decorated ghosts and pumpkins, and it was amazing to see everyone’s creativity come to life.

I’ll be honest — I was a little nervous for my first class. I know what I’m doing, but having all eyes on you and explaining something you’ve done for a while in ways that make sense to people who have never tried it is a little daunting. But as soon as I started setting up, I felt good and ready to take on the class.

Of course I am going to learn something new each class and this first one I realized my icing was a little thick for students, so I’ll be thinning it out next time to make it easier to work with. Luckily, I came prepared with extras so those who wanted to practice with thinner flood icing could do so.

I also figured out a better projection system to show my demonstrations clearly, so no one has to squint to see how to decorate their cookies. This will make the next class even better!

It was so fun to see everyone’s creativity shine through with different versions of the cookies. There are so many ways to decorate, so I tried to show multiple approaches so each person could make their cookie uniquely theirs.

If you couldn’t make this class… don’t worry! The next one is already scheduled for November 17th at Hundred Mile Brewing Co. from 6:30pm-8:30pm! Each attendee will receive 5 cookies to decorate, royal icing, all materials needed, and a beer! What better way to bring in the holiday season than with cookies and beer? I’m so excited to partner with Hundred Mile Brewing Co. for this class — the theme is pies, and it’s going to be a blast. So grab a friend (guys — you can join too!), and let’s drink, giggle, and decorate!

You can register for the class here on my updated cookie class page:

I can't wait to decorate with you all again! Stay tuned for the dates and theme for the December cookie class!
